In front of the camera, from Mary Pickford to Scarlett Johansson, women are the stars of the screen. Since the invention of cinema, they have written the history of the seventh art. But the other side of the coin is less glamorous: stereotypes and sexist power systems have long favored gender inequalities and the exclusion of women from places of power.
Women and cinema is therefore a paradoxical story, in constant movement, which has gradually reached the entire planet. A century-old story, made of myths and passions that, through a mirror effect, is gradually pushing all of humanity to assume its dark side.
This conference will trace the evolution of stereotypes in cinema as well as the inequalities that have long characterized the film industry. It will highlight the cultural, social and economic issues related to the adaptation of the entire industry. It will review the initiatives aimed at accelerating this transformation and the role that artists, companies, cultural organizations and also... the public can play.
