I never look at the artist's gender or color. What interests me is the talent", "I love this photographer's portraits. He has an objective eye", "If there aren't many women photographers, it's certainly for a good reason"... Yes, and we're going to think about it during this conference.
We produce and view visuals, and we participate in systems of representation - often unwittingly. Analyzing the image factory through case studies will enable us to understand how discriminating stereotypes feed our imaginations, and how and why we can change the way we look at things.
We'll especially focus on the photographic press portrait, which is very much a part of our daily lives, through paper, digital newspapers and social networks.
Marie Docher is a photographer, author and feminist activist. Known for her commitment to better representation of women in photography, she has been named “Chevaleresse des Arts et des Lettres” (an honorific title in France) and is the winner of the Bibliothèque nationale de France's major photographic commission "Radioscopie de la France" in 2022. In 2023, she published the documentary book "Et l'amour aussi" (And Love Too), which takes a deep dive into queer culture.
